Introduction

‘The Purpose Driven Life’ is a popular book written by Rick Warren, for people who are zealous for God and have questions about life.
The book was written systematically to enable anyone to discover their God-given purpose within 40 days. The chapter headings of the books include:

i. What on Earth am I here for?

This chapter begins with Day 1, giving us an understanding that understanding purpose begins in God. The man was created by God and for him.

When you view life from God’s point of view, you understand that it is only a temporary assignment to prepare us for our reign in eternity. You will be on earth for a short period, make it count.

ii. You were planned for God’s pleasure

This chapter begins the second week by enlightening you on God’s intention for you. The most important reason why God created you was to worship and fellowship with him.

Your priority in life should be pleasing God. He desires that you live a life that is pleasing to him. Even when he seems distant, he is closer than you think. You were created to make God smile.

iii. You were formed for God’s family

The body of Christ is the only family that will exist beyond this earth. You come into this family by being born again.

Cultivating fellowship with members of the body of Christ in your community builds a stronger relationship and prepares you for Heaven. You were not created to stand alone. You have a contribution to make to the growth of this body. God planted you in a family for fellowship, don’t miss out on its benefits.

iv. You were created to become like Christ

The ultimate objective is that you become like Christ. This is progressive and takes time, so don’t beat yourself up. God wants you to gradually learn from him and grow. We might face challenges but they are not meant to break us, but to instill growth. The more we expose ourselves to the truth, which is Christ, the more we conform to his image.

v. You were shaped for serving God

You were saved to save and saved to serve. Your uniqueness was embedded to fulfill a particular assignment. You have just what you to need to carry out God’s purpose for you. He is aware that you are weak, his strength is made perfect in your weakness.

You do not need another person’s design or qualities to fulfill your purpose, you need yours. All that God has given you is all that you need. Accept your assignment and stop trying to be someone else.

vi. You were made for a mission

This chapter concludes the 40-day journey. It gives the understanding that one who doesn’t live life purposefully is merely existing.
God’s blessing only comes to us when we do what he has assigned us to do, which we ought to have known after completing the 40-day journey.

We are encouraged to draft out purpose statements for our lives, which would guide us daily as we go through life. When we know what we ought to do, it would be easy to identify what we aren’t supposed to be doing.

Conclusion

In considering God’s purpose for our lives, answering the following questions would give us more understanding:

a. What will be the center of my life?
b. What will be the character of my life?
c. What will be the contribution of my life?
d. What will be the communication of my life?
e. What would be the community of my life?

Just like David, God is looking for men who would serve his purpose in their generation. You were made for a time such as this, not the generation before you, or the generation after you. You can start living your purpose today, while there is life, there is hope.
Some of the quotes embedded in this book are listed below.
When God’s at the center of your life, you worship. When he’s not, you worry.

Before most unbelievers accept the Bible as credible, they want to believe that we are credible
Long before you were conceived by your parents, you were conceived in the mind of God.

You weren’t put on earth to be remembered, you were put here to prepare for eternity
If you want your life to have an impact, focus on it!
