In the previous post, we unveiled the focus for this year 2021. As stated in the last post, we’ll be considering the topic ‘Purpose & Passion; Living For God’.
To begin this journey, we must delve into the meaning of these keywords and the degree of their importance.
What does ‘purpose’ mean?
The word ‘Purpose’ describes the reason or intention behind the existence of a thing. In this case, we’ll be referring to man. Purpose explains why you should be allowed to exist at all, or why you should be given a chance at life.
Man was created by God, and everything created was made with intention. The Bible makes us understand that The Trinity came in agreement and declared in Genesis 1:26
Then God said, ‘And now, we will make human beings like us and resemble us. They will have power over the fish, the birds, and all animals, domestic and wild, large and small.’ GNB
Whatever exists at all, exists because there was a need for it. A creator thinks about a need, conceives a solution in His heart, and reproduces that solution he had thought about.
Why is it relevant to understand ‘purpose’?
God created man in His image, and man expresses different dimensions of God, based on individual unique designs. God created the world because he had thought about the man. Man would need a conducive environment for living, and so God put things in place.
God cannot begin what he has not ended already, that’s why we refer to Him as Alpha and Omega.
God, therefore, created you because there was a need. He created you to express a dimension of himself unique to you. Man has only one chance at life, after which he transits. Death is not the end, it is only a convener to where we would spend eternity.
If you have no reason to live purposefully, you should remember that your life and actions on earth, determine where your eternity will be lived. This is enough burden to sit you down and cause you to reconsider many things.
If your creator made you with intentions, functioning outside His will or desire would mean you are ‘malfunctioning’. A car was designed to move on land and not on the sea. If you’re living a life that contradicts God’s desires for you, you would never find fulfillment, you would never be satisfied. Perhaps, these reasons are enough questions to cause you to hunger to know God’s will for your life.
How do we discover the purpose?
To understand the purpose of creation, you must ask the creator. This is one of the many things we would be considering this year. You cannot be alienated from your source and except to live a life worth living. Colossians 1: 15-17 explains it better.
15. Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. He is the first-born Son, superior to all created things.
16. For through him God created everything in heaven and the earth, the seen and unseen things, including spiritual powers, lords, rulers, and authorities. God creates the whole universe through him and for him.
17. Christ existed before all things, and in the union, with him, all things have their proper place. GNB
You cannot live the life of another person and achieve the same results. You are unique for a purpose. You have burdens and passions that no other person might carry because they are relevant to the fulfillment of your assignment. But the very first step we must take in understanding why we have been created at all is to encounter our maker and develop a relationship with him.
It is my sincere prayer that this journey leads you closer to God more than ever.
When should we discover purpose?
Now! Now is the time to decide to live for God!
Ecclesiastes 3:11 declares that God has set the right time for everything…’
It is time to understand the heart of God as far as your life is concerned. It is time to request his blueprint. Recall the anchor scripture for the year, Hebrews 10:7.
This year, we are deciding to do it God’s way. We are letting go of our desires and plans, and asking God to reveal his mind to us. We are surrendering our lives to be used by Him. We have lived based on our choices and decisions, it is time to make a U-turn and return to God.
I have chosen to open my heart and allow God to minister to me as we consider this focus. Writing the blog posts has caused me to pray certain prayers and beseech God to strengthen me to live for Him. I hope this would be your resolve too. In the next post, we would consider the life of a man who lived for God in our days.
Till then, set your affection on things above. I would love to read from you in the comment box. Take care!
